Renovating your kitchen may range from painting the walls to a complete home make over. In this DIY advice column we will cover basin design principles and general kitchen design guidelines.
Start by asking yourself how you use your kitchen? Surprisingly the answer is much more detailed than simply ‘cooking’.
Also ask yourself what features you would like and then prioritise them to fit the best into your budget first.
Remember that almost anything is possible! Walls, plumbing and electrical positions can be changed to fit your ideal layout BUT the less you spend on structural change the more you will have for nicer cabinets, flooring, brassware and fittings and fixtures.
Here is a list of things to consider when planning your perfect kitchen:
- How do you use your kitchen (how many people at a time, special needs etc)??
- Where will be the best position for the 3 main points (cooker, fridge and sink)?
- What style would you like?
- What features do you want?
- What combination of cupboards would you like (pantry, bin, pots, cutlery etc)?

Very interesting information. I’m just about to give my whole house a face lift. Lets hope everything goes smoothly with not too many hiccups. Wish me luck
